Design and Implementation of the Operation Environmental Management Plan (OEMP) for the 120m x 35m Floating Dock ‘Ereneos’ at the Port of Limassol, 2018 – ongoing

Multimarine Shipyards commissioned ISOTECH to prepare an Operational Environmental Management Plan (OEMP), a dynamic management system that identifies the environmental risks and legal obligations associated with the day to day operations of the Dock and specifies the management measures Multimarine will implement in order to prevent or minimise the environmental impacts associated with these operations, including guidance for the monitoring, measuring, and reporting of environmental performance during the operations. This is the first OEMP ever implemented in Cyprus.

Implementation of the Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) for the Preparatory Construction Phase of the Installation of a 120m x 35m Floating Dock at the Port of Limassol, 2017-2018

Isotech Ltd has been commissioned by Multimarine Shipyards LTD to prepare a Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) for the preparatory construction phase of the installation of a 120 m long floating dock at the Limassol Port. The CEMP is part of the project’s implementation, based on the findings of the Environmental Impact Assessment study and the requirements of the Department of Environment. The CEMP has been developed by ISOTECH to provide measures to avoid, minimize, and mitigate potential adverse environmental impacts associated with the construction works; and to provide guidance for the monitoring, measuring, and reporting of environmental performance of all environmental aspects during the construction phase. ISOTECH’s role is to support Multimarine Shipyards LTD for the implementation of the CEMP and provide guidance in managing environmental issues on site.

Environmental Impact Assessment for a Fresh Water Fish farm, 2016

Environmental Impact Assessment for an inland, freshwater, sturgeon fish farming facility. The project is located at a very sensitive area, very close to the Ezousa-river estuary, at Agia Varvara community, Paphos. The plant is the first effort in Cyprus for a fully recyclable usage of fresh water. Innovative and fully automated treatment methods is been incorporated in order to retain the best water quality for the fish.

Environmental Impacts from the Military Range of Xyndou, Cyprus, 2015-2016

Technical Support to the Community Councils of five villages surrounding the Xyndou Military Range.  Identification of most significant impacts to health, safety and quality of life, for the residents of the area, which could be connected and attributed to the operation of a Military Range in close proximity. Preparation of ToR for a thorough Environmental and Epidemiological Study.

West Corridor Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) (June 2014-today)

Implementation of the Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) for the Construction of West Corridor P010 (Package 1) a new freeway that includes four different grade-separate interchanges  in Doha, Qatar.

ISOTECH was assigned to undertake the monitoring of all environmental commitments and requirements of the CEMP. The CEMP is a risk management tool, which has been developed to:

  1. Provide measures to avoid, minimize, and mitigate potential adverse environmental impacts associated with the proposed construction works;
  2. Identify roles and responsibilities of key personnel responsible for the implementation of the CEMP; and
  3. Provide guidance for the monitoring, measuring, and reporting of environmental performance of all environmental aspects during the construction phase of the Project.

Technical assessment of the expansion of the “E. Panagi & Sons Ltd” Quarry (2013).

Technical assessment of the expansion of the “E. Panagi & Sons Ltd” Quarry on the quality of life, health, environment and sustainable development of the Sia Community (July 2013, funded by Sia Local Authority): This was an assessment of the current effects (on environment, health and quality of life) that the community of Sia faces from the operation of the quarry in question, and the potential effects from the proposed expansion of the quarry.

Reformation of the coastal zone in front of Aphrodite Hills Golf Resort (2012).

Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment for the reformation of the coastal zone in front of Aphrodite Hills Golf Resort, Cyprus (April 2012, funded by Aphrodite Hills Resort): This study included an area that falls within the Natura 2000 network.

EIA and Appropriate Assessment for the diversion of the Almyros Potamos River, within the ‘Alykos Potamos – Agios Sozomenos’ Natura 2000 area (2012).

The study, funded by Nicos Koshis Properties Ltd, included a preliminary evaluation of the current environmental state of the area in question and as assessment of the impact of the proposed intervention on the area’s geology and hydrogeology, air quality, biodiversity and ecosystems, land use, noise and others. A monitoring plan was also presented. Special considerations and actions, including undertaking and Appropriate Assessment, were required since the intervention was within the Natura 2000 network.

Preparation of the Terms of Reference for the Epidemiological and EIA for the “Xyntou” army shooting range in Agia Marina Xyliatou, Cyprus (2012).

Given that the shooting range in question is the largest on the island and that it is surrounded by communities in its close proximity, particular emphasis was placed on ensuring that the conducted EIA would include hazard identification and health impact assessments. This project was funded by the Ministry of Defense.

Extension of the deck of Limassol Harbour by 500 meters (May 2010 – Jan 2011).

Extension of the deck of Limassol Harbour by 500 meters (May 2010 – Jan 2011). The deck will serve container ships up to 7th generation. Environmental Impact Study undertaken by ISOTECH Ltd. The project was awarded to the TRITON-PLANET Consortium. Funding by Cyprus Ports Authority. May 2010 – Jan 2011.

EIA for the construction and operation of a precast concrete factory in the area of Analyontas – Kotsiatis, Cyprus (2011).

Isotech undertook this study, funded by Nickom Constructors and Developers Ltd, to assess the environmental impacts of constructing and operating the factory on a number of parameters including, but not limited to: geological characteristics of the area, ecosystems and biodiversity, solid and liquid waste management, noise and air pollution, working environment, road transport and social wellbeing of the inhabitants of the nearby area.

Environmental Impact Study for the new protection coastal works at Pafos Harbor, Cyprus (Dec 2007 – Dec 2008).

ISOTECH ltd won the tender for this study, which is funded by the Cyprus Ports Authority.

Environmental Impact Study/ environmental audit for the operation of PIPIS FARM, Nicosia, Cyprus. (August 2005 – November 2005).

ISOTECH ltd proceeded in a comprehensive environmental audit of Pipis chicken slaughter house and its rendering plan. The environmental problems have been identified, and technical solutions have been suggested especially for the mitigations of odor and improvement of waste management/ treatment. Environmental Impact Assessment from the extension of Latsi Fishing Shelter in Polis Chrysohous area (2002 February – 2002 April).

EIA undertaken by PROPLAN Ltd and ISOTECH Ltd. Project financed by the Ministry of Communication and Works (Cyprus). The design of the extension works of Latsi fishing shelter was undertaken by the Laboratory of Harbour Works of the National Technical University of Athens.

Introduction and pilot application of EMAS in Cyprus (European Council Regulation 1836/93), (2000- 2001)

The project was funded by the European Community Program LIFE Programme Third Countries (Project LIFE TCY/CY/102). ISOTECH ltd undertook the responsibility of the pilot application of EMAS to a dairy industry and a hotel.

Emission inventory for the town of Nicosia. (1999)

A gap analysis has been carried out concerning the data available for the quantitative description of all pollution sources in Nicosia for the preparation of an emission inventory with emphasis on vehicle emission. The project was funded by the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance and was carried out by Proplan Ltd, supported by ISOTECH Ltd in co-operation with the Ministry.
