We are very happy to announce that project ‘Plastic Busters’, in which ISOTECH is the lead partner for Cyprus, has been officially labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean!

Involving 17 Mediterranean countries and 15 partners, under the coordination of the University of Siena, the overall goal of this ambitious 4-year project is to contribute to the de-pollution of the Mediterranean Sea through the promotion of the implementation of the Regional Plan on Marine Litter Management in the Mediterranean (Barcelona Convention – IG.21/9). The main objectives and activities focus on: a) addressing the marine litter related knowledge gaps via monitoring, assessment and mitigation; b) developing and implementing concrete actions to prevent marine litter, identify convergence areas and remove marine litter; c) actions to enhance the awareness of stakeholders and catalyze change in their perceptions and attitudes towards waste.

The objectives will be addressed through a series of activities including an expedition in the Mediterranean, monitoring marine litter in sentinel organisms, detecting the effects of marine litter on trophic webs and investigating its impacts on human health, implementing demonstration projects, and undertaking extensive awareness-raising activities.

The project will be launched in Siena, Italy in mid-April.
