The Bio2PEs consortium is meeting in Ljubljana for its 12-Month General Assembly, hosted by the Slovenian National Institute of Chemistry (Kemijski inštitut – National Institute of Chemistry inštitut), to review progress and plan the next steps of the EU-funded Bio2PEs project.
Representing ISOTECH, Demetra Orthodoxou presented our upcoming work to assess the rate and extent of disintegration of the bio-based prototypes developed by the project under real environmental conditions, as part of Bio2PEs’ open-environment biodegradation studies.
Bio2PEs is developing bio-based and biodegradable polyethylene and polyesters directly from biomass waste for applications including food and textile packaging, agricultural mulch and crop-protection membranes.
ISOTECH leads Bio2PEs’ open-environment biodegradation studies, coordinating testing across four European climate zones in soil, freshwater and marine environments.
Because developing a new material is only part of the challenge. Understanding what happens to it in the real world is just as important.
